SAN JOSE, Calif.-- EK Health Services, Inc. announced today that its Utilization Review program has earned re-accreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry.
“EK Health Services should be commended for meeting strict quality standards,” said Alan P. Spielman, URAC President and CEO. “It is critically important for health care organizations to make a commitment to quality and accountability. URAC accreditation is a demonstration of that commitment.”
URAC’s Health Utilization Management (UM) standards establish consistency in UM processes. The standards ensure that appropriately trained clinical personnel conduct and oversee the UR process, that a reasonable and timely appeals process is in place, and that medical decisions are based on valid clinical criteria.
“An important part of our mission is to provide reliable and high quality standards in our UR process, so we are pleased to see this validated by URAC,” said Oliver Ostlander, Vice President of Operations and Business Development of EK Health Services.
Headquartered in San Jose, CA, EK Health Services is one of nation’s leading medical and disability management services companies. Founded in 1998, EK Health Services provides workers’ compensation case management, utilization and peer review services to insurance companies, employers, for-profits and public entities, including California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund. EK has managed more than 35,000 UR cases and 375,000 peer reviews. In addition to California, EK Health provides services in over 20 states.
